This will be my last Hello Kitty post for a while because, needless to say, I’m about done with that cat for a little while. First there were the HK-themed party invites, decorations, snacks, and thank yous. Then, there were the Hello Kitty gifts – alarm clock, mousepad, mouse, t-shirts, stickers, tote-bag, etc., etc.. It seems that the Kitty’s face is all over my house now! (and the girls want to be Hello Kitty and her sister for Halloween – yikes!)
I thought I had seen it all until my husband went to the new wine store this morning and alerted me to this:
It is wrong, illegal even, for a cartoon camel to promote cigarettes, but it is perfectly alright for a cartoon cat, wearing a bow, and aimed at little girls to be hawking liquor?? Explain this concept to me again.
Just curious what marketing person at Sanrio thought this was a good licensing deal…
