No monogram today. I have a few Halloween things to sneak in this week before it is too late!
I got this great Martha Stewart Holiday Handbook at Target last month – it is full of great decorating ideas, food and drinks, etc. all to put you in the Halloween mood.
I wasn’t sure what I wanted to try out first until I got to the cocktails section (I can feel your stunned reaction. Who me? Earmark a cocktail first? It can’t be…) and saw that a trio of the drinks called for black vodka. Never heard of it and, of course, immediately went on the hunt. I found the
totally unoriginal name – Blavod black vodka – and tried to locate some. Not to be found in Miami, I had it shipped from Houston (Spec’s is hands-down one of the best liquor stores around…) and went to work.
Pretty sure it is just vodka and food coloring, but it does make for some cool-looking and very Halloween worthy drinks! Wish I had a better glass for this, but you get the idea… Cheers!
Yield: One wicked cocktail
1/4 cup ice
1/2 cup tangerine juice (A bonus that my organic box had a bag of juicy ripe tangerines last week! Fate was on my side!)
1 1/2 ounces black vodka
1. Place ice in a tall glass and pour in tangerine juice.
2. Carefully pour vodka over the back of a cocktail spoon into the glass so it sits on top of the juice creating a layer of black.
3. Garnish as desired. (MS suggest cutting the ends off a licorice twist and using it as a straw.)
4. Serve immediately.
