Happy Day after Thanksgiving!
I hope you were able to spend your day enjoying good food and time with your friends and family. This was the second year that Thanksgiving dinner was held at our house, and I think we did o.k.! Or, better than o.k., as evidenced by our recyclables… 🙂
This Friday’s cocktail is a white wine that we enjoyed at yesterday’s meal, and will make a repeat appearance here tonight. Cochon Wines are produced by Odisea Wine Company in Napa, California. We first heard of them from D’s father – the wine company was co-founded by the husband of a partner in his law firm’s San Francisco office. Did you follow that? It’s very good and we ended up ordering a case of a few different varieties of their offerings and had the 2010 Petite Cochon Blanc White Rhone Blend with dinner.
Begins with an intense perfume of Spring flowers, orange blossom and honeysuckle followed by nectarine, white peach and exotic tropical fruits. The exuberant fruit is matched by a heady, glycerol texture, lively acids and touches of stone and savory spice. Displays a deft balance of richness and texture as well as acidity fruit and spice. Shows tremendous zest and purity with power and elegance and a persistent, long finish.
This inaugural vintage of Petite Cochon Blanc includes five different grape varieties from five unique vineyard sites. We chose sustainably grown Vermentino (Rolle) and Roussanne from 13-year old BellaGrace Vineyard in the Shenandoah Valley of Amador County. BellaGrace is planted to a selection of Rhone clones originating from the famed Beaucastel Estate in Chateauneuf-du-Pape at 1200 feet elevation. The Marsanne and Viognier are from the low yielding Herzog Vineyard in Clarksburg known for its warm, sunny days and cool breezy nights perfectly suited for ripening complex Rhone grapes. Finally we selected Grenache Blanc from organically farmed Vista Luna Vineyard. This selection of Grenache Blanc was planted with a clone originally brought back from old vine cuttings from the village of Rasteau in the Southern Rhone Valley.
Really yummy and I can’t wait to try the other bottles we ordered…
