Last Saturday, D and I took the girls out of our comfort zone (i.e. our Zip Code) for pizza. I think I will travel anywhere for good pizza… We headed to Buena Vista, a semi-marginal, up-and-coming neighborhood, on the edge of Miami’s Design District. It has some great, new restaurants, cute 1920s bungalow and cottages that line the residential streets and this pizza joint:
The restaurant is small, but quaint and cozy with a really casual vibe. It was a beautiful evening, so the front door was propped open, good music was playing the in the background, and people would wander in for dinner.
The restaurant from our table by the front window.
We ordered three pizzas – one plain cheese for the girls, a “Della Nonna,” which is topped with eggplant, roasted red peppers, zucchini, onions, mushrooms, tomato sauce, mozzarella and basil, and a “Catalina,” which is topped with spinach, eggs, tomato sauce, mozzarella and truffle oil.
Yummo! Our two “grown-up” pizzas were awesome. The mozzarella is chewy and salty and delicious, the veggies on the “Della Nonna” were so good, and the egg/truffle oil combo on the “Catalina” was amazing. I didn’t love the girls’ cheese pizza as much, but it could be that I was so dazzled by the other two… I can’t wait to go back and try some of the other pizzas on the menu. And we’ll definitely go back soon!
